Position Reports to Assistant Director of Nursing
Education and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
- Graduate of a recognized program in Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD)
- Registered Nurse with a CSSD diploma or recognized program
- Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in CSSD or a related field preferred
- Valid registration/license as a Nurse, CSSD, or any allied health profession
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Manager or Assistant Manager of a nursing unit or CSSD in a large acute care hospital
- Minimum of 3 years of experience managing supplies/equipment at a management level.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and oversee all activities within the CSSD, including the decontamination, assembly, and sterilization of surgical instruments and medical equipment
- Develop, implement, and monitor policies and procedures to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations
- Ensure that all sterilization processes are carried out effectively and efficiently, maintaining high standards of quality control
- Supervise and provide guidance to CSSD staff, including scheduling, training, and performance evaluations
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure timely and adequate supply of sterile instruments and equipment
- Maintain accurate records of sterilization processes, inventory, and equipment maintenance
- Monitor and manage inventory levels, ensuring adequate stock of sterile supplies and timely ordering of materials
- Conduct regular audits and inspections of the CSSD to ensure adherence to protocols and standards
- Implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the CSSD
- Ensure proper maintenance and functioning of all CSSD equipment, coordinating repairs and replacements as necessary
- Provide education and training to staff on best practices, new techniques, and safety protocols related to sterilization and infection control.
